This is the team that keeps the animals healthy and comfortable during their stay at the center. A shift means filling water bottles, preparing diets, feeding, cleaning enclosures, washing dishes, and general cleanup, indoors and out. No experience needed; you’ll be trained on state-approved protocols and paired with an experienced volunteer for your first shifts.

Foster volunteers are how a volunteer-run center raises hundreds of orphans a year. We train you on state-approved protocols, supply formula and equipment, and stay on call. Babies come to you tiny and leave for a ReWild enclosure when they’re eating on their own.

Before release, animals need weeks outside to build muscle, learn weather, and lose their interest in people. ReWild volunteers host that stage. We provide the enclosure plan and the animals; you provide the yard, the daily care, and often the release itself. Squirrels must be released within ten miles of where they were found, so we especially need sites across the North Bay, South Bay, and San Mateo County. No experience necessary.

Animal control agencies across the Bay Area hold wildlife for us; someone has to go get it. Transport volunteers move animals from city shelters to our center or a foster home, run supplies, and occasionally pick up produce and browse branches. Runs are posted in Slack and you claim what you can.

Most hotline callers can box up a baby squirrel. Some can’t: the animal is under a car, in a storm drain, tangled in netting, or the finder is frightened. Emergency Response volunteers go out with nets and traps, secure the animal, and keep everyone calm. Training covers capture, handling, rabies-vector safety, and de-escalation.

Every animal that goes outside goes into an enclosure a volunteer built. We provide plans and materials budgets; you provide the skill, the tools, and the space to build. Repairs to existing enclosures at the center are ongoing work, and there is a plan on the table to enlarge our pre-release enclosures that needs carpenters.

Education is a third of our mission. This team runs classroom talks, staffs booths at festivals and STEM days, produces the annual report and calendar, keeps social media alive, and updates this site. If you’d rather hold a camera than a bottle, this is your team.

This team leads Yggdrasil’s efforts to secure and steward donations. The work spans email fundraising, major donor stewardship, in-kind donations, and fundraising events, plus partnerships developed alongside the outreach team. No prior fundraising experience is required, just organization, good writing, and a collaborative mindset.
